Spain, the fifth best country in the world in which to invest in renewable energies

Spain is one of the five most attractive countries in the world in which to invest in renewable energies, according to the semester index developed by Ernst & Young concerning this issue. The first four countries ahead of Spain are China, which knocks the United Kingdom out of the fourth position, India (3rd), Germany (2nd) and United States (1st).

The report includes a statistic that means excellent news for Spain: the total amount of wind energy produced in our country met 10% of the annual energy demands in 2007, according to the information provided by Red Eléctrica. This means a step forward towards the goals set by the EU, which established the goal for Spain of reaching 20% of total energy production from renewable sources by 2020.   The first three positions for the most attractive countries in which to invest in renewable energy - the United States, Germany and India, respectively – have remained unchanged during the first half of the year. However, the United Kingdom disappears from the ‘Top 5,’ being replaced by China, which has diversified its energy sources. According to Ernest & Young, this rise in positions is the result of the announcement made by Beijing that 15% of its energy will be green energy by 2020.
